My own take on Ming Doyle’s amazing Project Rooftop Wonder Woman redesign. God, it’s so pretty. The emphasis on cloth rather than armor just seems right to me, and it manages to keep the same basic color scheme while not looking like an American flag. I don’t normally like adding black to colorful costumes, but in this case it feels more like body wrappings or something under the colors and doesn’t feel like it expresses a darker vision of the character.
I made a couple minor alterations. I simplified it (mostly just to match my personal style), and I brought back the traditional tiara and bracelets. I still changed the bracelets to gold rather than silver, and made all the gold on the outfit brighter and more metallic. I kept the updo I’ve been drawing her with because I’ve gotten kind of good at it.
Seriously, though, if DC just opted to have Wonder Woman dress like Ming Doyle’s design all the time, I’d be totally okay with it.
So awesome! Beautiful tweaks, love your take. :)
So myself, Jamie Mckelvie and Ming Doyle were recent guests on Kieron Gillens podcast to talk about costume design.
Here’s Kieron’s write up about it:
Let’s get down to brass tacks and talk clothes, gentlemen. This was such a blast, thanks for hosting, Kieron, and thanks for gabbing, all!
